The Contract Swine Auditor will work closely with the assigned client to conduct 3rd party audits of their internal auditing program.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Auditors will be trained on program requirements and participate in ongoing training, knowledge sharing and process improvements.
The core verification process includes: coordinating verifications with the office and customer, preparing for onsite verifications, conducting verifications, completing the verification checklist and submitting all relevant information to applicable internal teams.
Use technology such as an iPad or tablet for gathering information for the audits.
Knowledge of biosecurity protocols to prevent the spread of diseases. Biosecurity would need to be followed per the client’s request.
Individuals would not be able to own any swine of any type as this would be a biosecurity issue with the farms that we audit.

Required Skills:
Must be located in Iowa, Minnesota, or South Dakota.Â
Knowledge in swine including animal welfare standards, behavior, needs, proper handling techniques, dietary requirements at various stages of growth, and design and maintenance of housing facilities including ventilation, lighting and temperature control requirements.Â
Bachelor’s degree in agriculture and 5 years of experience OR 15 years of experience in the industry
Potential auditors would need to either have a PAACO On-Farm Swine Welfare Auditor Training certificate or willing to go through the PAACO training to obtain certification
Extensive knowledge of agricultural systems, with a primary focus in swine, processing facilities and food manufacturing
Familiarity with visitor protocols, sanitation procedures, and isolation/quarantine practices for sick animals
Understanding of disease prevention and control measures, including vaccination schedules
Understanding of regulations and standards related to the safety of pork products (e.g., USDA, FDA guidelines)
Ability to review and assess records related to animal health, feed, medications, and treatments
Knowledge of proper record-keeping practices for traceability and accountability
Familiarity with electronic data systems and software used in swine production
Knowledge of feed quality standards and practices to prevent contamination
Familiarity with residue monitoring (e.g., antibiotics, pesticides)
Independent and free of conflict of interest
Driver’s license or ability to obtain rental vehicle and travel to each location
Fair-minded and able to maintain an objective approach at all times
Strong critical thinking skills

Strong aptitude for professionalism and confidentiality
Exceptional communication skills and heightened attention to detail

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Preferred Skills:
PAACO (Professional Animal Auditing Certification Organization) certified for On-Farm Swine Welfare Auditor
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office with the willingness to learn proprietary IT systems – hardware, software and mobile applications
Additional working knowledge and experience in any of the following categories is a plus and will be weighted heavily in preference: beef, swine, crops, and/or feed productions systems
Practical field experience in agriculture, food science, or food production
Food safety and quality standards.

Working Conditions:Â
Independent contract position: $520.00-$720.00 USD per audit day
Remote with 100% travel as the schedule dictates
