The General Contract Auditor is an independent contractor who is responsible for conducting onsite audits of agricultural operations at Where Food Comes From’s client locations in California’s Central Valley.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Must be located within or near the assigned region of California’s Central Valley
100% travel as the schedule dictates
Auditors will be trained on program requirements and participate in ongoing training, knowledge share
The core verification process includes: coordinating verifications with the office and customer, preparing for onsite verifications, conducting verifications, completing the verification checklist and submitting all relevant information to the Customer Verification Specialist team
Additional assignments may be designated within contract agreement
Required Skills:
Extensive experience (5+ years) and knowledge of California’s Central Valley agricultural specialty crops including but not limited to almonds, wine grapes, tomatoes, and walnuts
Independent and free of conflict of interest
Fair-minded and able to always maintain an objective approach
Strong critical thinking skills
Excellent organization and attention to detail
Customer-service focused with proven communications and people skills
Strong sense of urgency towards customer service and task management
Strong aptitude for professionalism and confidentiality
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and willingness to learn proprietary IT systems with hardware, software, and mobile applications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, natural or social sciences OR 15+years professional experience in the same field(s)
Preferred Skills:
Master’s degree in agriculture, natural or social sciences
Extensive knowledge of specialty crops including trees, vines, etc.
Auditing and/or verification or certification experience preferred
Experience performing regulatory inspections or similar audits
Experience in regulatory environments
Experience working in SalesForce or similar database systems
Additional working knowledge and experience in any of the following categories is a plus and will be weighted heavily in preference: sustainable agriculture audits or certifications, organic, non-GMO, food science crops, and/or feed productions systems
Food safety and quality standards
Working Conditions:
Independent contract position: pay is based on duration of audit
Remote with 100% travel as the schedule dictates, mostly overnight
Crops, ranches, manufacturing, and processing and packaging facilities
Temperature extremes of high heat or cold, including indoors and outdoors
